Bon matin, West Island — 2026-03-12

Good Morning

Bon matin, West Island — that $150 car registration tax hike is hitting different when your nearest bus runs twice a day and the REM stops at Sainte-Anne. West Island mayors are crying foul over paying Montreal transit prices for what amounts to a very expensive parking pass at Vaudreuil station, according to CBC Montreal. Deputy prefect Geneviève Lachance says it best: "People feel they're paying for nothing really" — which, frankly, sounds about right when you're subsidizing the métro while driving to Costco.

The Daily Detour

Good news, Pointe-Claire! The orange cone invasion is mostly happening elsewhere today — just some routine sewer work on Laval between Rachel and Mont-Royal through next week. Your commute should be blissfully cone-free, which in Montreal is basically winning the lottery.

Support Local

Since the leaves are doing their thing, this is prime time to rediscover Pointe-Claire Village's waterfront trail — yes, it exists and it's gorgeous. The boardwalk stretch gives you proper lake views without the Lachine crowds, plus you can grab a coffee at Café Depot afterward. Perfect excuse to remember why you moved to the West Island in the first place.

Vibe Check

February's serving up that special brand of misery where it's too cold for optimism but too warm for proper winter gear.
